Dear visitors to our internet site: Welcome!
Have a click through: you will find plenty of information on the academic secondary school Casimirianum Coburg and about life at our school: current events and reports, descriptions of individual subjects and information on our long history spanning more than four centuries. Our school has a rich tradition and yet is also a modern academic secondary school committed to adopting new educational initiatives. Last but not least, we offer after-school supervision and so-called "introductory classes" for students transferring from secondary school to us.
Casimirianum was founded on July 3, 1605 and is therefore the oldest academic secondary school in Coburg. The imposing Renaissance building is situated in the town centre, opposite the church of St. Moriz.
At "Casi", as our school is affectionately nicknamed, 60 teachers currently teach about 550 students who are working towards their general university entrance qualification. After successfully completing year 10 all students obtain their intermediate secondary school leaving certificate.
As a humanistic school, we attach great importance to Latin as the first foreign language in year 5 as the foundation for academic secondary school education. In addition to Latin, students in year 5 have a bridging course of one English lesson per week in order for the new intake to reach the same standard before English is taught as the second foreign language in year 6. Casimirianum offers a wide choice of courses based upon classical humanistic, modern linguistic and scientific-technological branches, which are the defining focal points from years 8 to 10. Students can choose between Ancient Greek, Spanish and French and the scientific and technological subjects such as Chemistry and IT. As a school specialising in languages, we also offer beginners’ Italian or Spanish for students from years 10 to 12 - and Mandarin is taught as an extra-curricular subject for those who wish to learn it.
Our dedicated and highly qualified staff create a motivating and caring environment for our pupils. Our principle of encouragement through challenges within the framework of a rich academic secondary school education places just as much emphasis on aesthetic and sporting aspects as on "musarum sedes" (”the muses’ residence”): music ensembles, sports teams, theatre groups, the school magazine and many other activities play as vital a role as individualised learning support in extra programmes for gifted students, working groups and elective courses. The honouring of a large number of students as part of the Christmas celebration is legendary – more than 200 prizes are awarded annually to all those who enrich school life. As an academic secondary school with a focus on languages, we value student exchanges and educational trips abroad, which include London,GB; Niort,France; Aranjuez,Spain; Lincoln,USA and Hangzhou/China. We also support students who are interested in individual student exchanges worldwide.
Our homepage provides an introduction to our school and advice on academic issues. We encourage contact and discussion and I warmly invite you to talk to us. We all feel responsible for our "Casi" and we do all we can to achieve excellence in our school education!
